Real Days: A New Approach to Connecticut Family Portraits
I would have never hired a photographer for my family until I discovered Documentary Family Photography. My experience growing up consisted of one set of parents who never had professional pictures and the other set of parents who tried to take us to the mall once every couple of years resulting in complete disaster. To me family pictures were an annoyance and not meaningful.
Then I started making pictures for families (ridiculous, right? with that outlook). Of course I started with your basic, hour-long, sunset session. I struggled with posing people. Instead, I encouraged them to bring an activity, to run around and play with one another, to explore the interesting site I'd selected. My favorite pictures were the ones of when we all forgot that we had come together to make a family portrait.
Soon, I discovered that I wasn't the only one. I discovered a whole world of photographers documenting Real life, in fact, some of them weren't even bothering with the pretty sunset or the pretty setting.
Of course, I got to work. I took classes, read and read and read, studied great photographers, delved into different genres and started practicing. I practiced and practiced. I had my work critiqued by other photographers. I jumped into documentary photography feet first and with a passion that I had never felt about making art.
And now I'm making that passion and knowledge and skill available to you. I have a vehicle to make meaningful pictures that will inspire real emotion. These are pictures that will be tied to specific memories and feelings, that will be tied to the way you live your life because they show you and your family being real, begin together, being love.
And what is that vehicle? It is the Real Day Session. A full day with me and my camera, breakfast to bedtime and every activity in between. These aren't special days, these are Real Days. You come as you are and your family can relax, and play, have a temper tantrum and a snuggle. Your dog gets to be there.
I can't wait to meet your family, I can't wait to tell your story, your Real story, with all the little details that make your family so special. I can't wait to give you portraits that have something concrete to say, that speak about family and love and home like no mall portrait ever could. I can't wait to make something incredible together.
So don't make me wait, you're ready for Real, message me today.
