Wide Openness Between Us

In childhood, I see an uncanny level of intimacy like nothing that exists in the rest of our life. This body of work focuses on this intimacy. I’m constantly blown away by how open children are when photographed. I find I can learn so much about what it means to be human, from the loving and joyful moments to the anger and disappointment and everything in between. The openness is really a sign of the intimacy that children are so easily expressing and in fact needing. With these photos I explore this intimacy and its implications on both the self and one’s relationships, in particular sibling and parent-child relationships. The intimacy of childhood serves as a contrast to the more formal ethos of adulthood and exploring childhood intimacy can inspire us to consider ways to invite more intimacy into our lives.
